Migration-Based on different teritories
History of immigration:
From 1820 to 1920 nearly 30 million foreigners arrived in the United States. Close to 400,000 immigrants arrived in 1870 alone. Ten years later that figure rose to over 450,000 and remained high for several years. The immigrants transformed America, supplying labor for the great industrialization that swept over the country. Over the course of the twentieth century, the level of foreign immigration has fluctuated considerably depending on political and economic circumstances. These initial migrations gave us our language and people with experience in farming, business, and trade.
United states:
The United States Experienced Major Waves Of Immigration During The Colonial Era, The First Part Of The 19th Century And From The 1880s To 1920. Many Immigrants Came To America Seeking Greater Economic Opportunity, While Some, Such As The Pilgrims In The Early 1600s, Arrived In Search Of Religious Freedom.
UK:
Immigrants make up 12.5% of the population and the UK ranks 16 out of 32 for OECD countries in terms of migrant population. When surveyed, the British public believed immigrants made up a quarter of the UK population.
Australia:
58% of Australia's population increase is through migration which was 241.000 people last year. In 2008 net overseas migration was 315.700 which means that last year migration numbers were 74.700 fewer than 5 years ago. 41% of Australia's growth was through natural increase.
Canada and Mexico:
Canada, by far, is at the top of the list of countries whose nationals remain illegally in the U.S. after their permit expiration, with a total of 121281 visitors doing so last year after coming with any or the non migrant visas. Mexico follows, but with almost half the number of Canadians for a total of 52,859. Although the rate of Canadian overstays is lower than Mexico respectively, the gross impact of Canadians on this kind of unauthorized population is much higher.
